Despite leading his team to the top of the standings, Andrea Stramaccioni resigned from his position as Esteghlal's manager because of too many difficulties, including irregularities with payments, which prompted the rescinding of his contract for just cause. The development caused the club's fans to take to the streets to protest the way their team handled the situation.
