Thiago Motta, former Inter and PSG midfielder, has decided to retire last year at 36 years old and has begun his coaching career. He's talked about it in an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Retiring is the most difficult thing to do for a footballer. I've been lucky though, because as soon as my career was over I could go to Coverciano and I've started to coach. I didn't have time to think. A lot of former teammates had told me: "Thiago, the first year's a nightmare. You won't know what to do, you'll be missing everything". I made those plans ahead though.. I signed my last contract with two roles, player and coach. And I've decide to retire when I still was at my best".
About his football philosophy: "An offensive one. A team that imposes the game, presses high on the pitch, knows how to move as a whole with and without the ball, so that every player always has three or four solutions and a bunch of teammates ready to help him".
"You can play really offensively with the 5-3-2 and defensively with a 4-3-3. It depends on the players' qualities and their attitude. I've seen a phenomenon like Eto'o playing as a fullback, giving one of the Inter Triplete's secrets".
"Who's the best coach? Guardiola, he's a king. I admire Zidane a lot too. Among the ones that have coached me, Ancelotti is at the top. He's always positive, available and serene. He makes everyone feel important. When he puts someone on the side he's the first to feel sorry and already thinks about how to get him back. But when Carlo gets angry, the walls collapse... One time, against Evian.. No, I can't tell that. But ask Ibra".
"A winner, in the way that he's got only one objective: winning. He doesn't care about the show. Mouringo has two faces: one happy when he wins, one angry when he loses. His mood changes according to the result".
About his favorite to win the Champions League: "Five teams: Barcelona, Solari's Real, City which is the team that plays the best, PSG and then Ronaldo's Juve. Juve have already been to the final. They needed the player that could decide the faith of a final and get them to the win. They've got him now".
"Juve can't become an excuse for the other Serie A teams: they won't always win. Nobody does. They'll stop, and I think Inter will interrupt their monarchy".
