Dortmund makes request for Mertens, but he prefers to wait on Napoli

Dries Mertens is on an expiring contract in June 2020, and the Belgian is faced with a decision over his future. Borussia Dortmund has made a request to Napoli, the Bundesliga club is looking to replace the injured Paco Alcacer at forward. Mertens, who is a doubt for the match against Sassuolo, will take his time over a decision: he in fact prefers to wait until June to see what Napoli, the club and city which he has strong ties to, intends to do. If Mertens and Napoli do go other ways, the player prefers to move abroad rather than another team in Italy, and he could decide that Dortmund is the right destination.
