The award has not been officially announced, but Cristiano Ronaldo is the expected winner of the Ballon d'Or after leading Real Madrid and Portugal to twin triumphs in 2016. On the website of the Spanish newspaper Marca, the cover of France Football which declares Ronaldo as the winner was posted. This is Ronaldo's 4th time being awarded the honor, one fewer than Lionel Messi, who was runner-up for the price. In third place was Antoine Griezmann, he is quoted in the France Football story as saying he finished "behind two monsters."
