With just six months left on his current deal with PSG, striker Edinson Cavani will be soon free to sign a contract with a different club, as the decision of leaving Paris has already been made. Atletico Madrid have in fact targeted the 32-year-old Uruguayan and they have even reached an agreement with the striker. The Spanish club is now working on bringing the forward in already in January.
However, there's a few things missing before the deal can be considered done. Atletico will in fact need to sell some of their players, both because of the size of their current team and because of the salary cap imposed on the clubs by the Spanish football association. Moreover, Atletico Madrid and PSG have not reached an agreement yet on the transfer of the striker in January, not on the basis of a free transfer, although the clubs could agree a deal for a sum near to zero, considering Cavani's expiring contract.
Cavani -who was also linked to LA Galaxy as Inrahimovic's replacement and Leeds - has already made his decision to join Atletico Madrid and he is ready to sign a three-year deal with Diego Simeone's club and especially the coach believes that Cavani would be the perfect man to increase the team's goals tally.
Atletico Madrid plan to have a big January transfer window as they have targeted another player with a contract expiring in June 2020: Manchester United's midfielder Nemanja Matic. The situation for both players is similar, as the Spanish side would have to sell some players to make space for the Serbian.
