There was an important meeting today at the Napoli headquarters between Gennaro Gattuso and Aurelio De Laurentiis. The feeling was positive as the two sides discussed the current state of the team as well as the strategy to follow. The squad is coming off of a run of five positive results and the strong performance against Barcelona in the Champions League. They currently sit in sixth place in the standings on 39 points and the objective is to stay in the European places.
There was also talk of renewals of some of the players: Dries Mertens, for example, had the opportunity to talk with De Laurentiis about his future on Sunday as his contract expires in June.
The president of Napoli also reiterated his confidence in Gattuso, as reported by Francesco Modugno of Sky Sport. The coach has a contract until June of 2020, with an option for an additional year. The renewal would be automatic if they qualify for the Champions League. The desire of both parties seems to be reciprocated to continue together. The parties will meet again to discuss the new contractual details, new figures and new end date.
