A career as a bomber and captain, a symbol of a dreamed named Chievo Verona. Sergio Pellissier has officially announced his retirement from football at 40 years old, after 512 matches, 139 goals and 29 assists with the gialloblu Chievo shirt. The time has come to say good-bye to everyone and turn to a new chapter in his life, away from the pitch with his family and maybe with Chievo as a man of responsibility.
"It's a decision that I made some time ago, matured over three or four weeks. President Campedelli, whom I thank, tried to convince me to stay and continue, but I had already decided. I believe it's right to begin with new people, with people who must believe in what I believed in for these 19 years. I think that the right decision for those like me who don't want to stay on the bench at this age, even if it's justified. I don't want to be negative or a weight for this club, therefore it's right for me to leave now. I thank the president, my teammates, our coach (who I hope plays me in the next match), my friends and family that were always there and the fans that always supported me. I wish the best to the fans and the club, Chievo deserves the best."
Club president Campedelli announced that the club will retire Pellissier's jersey.
