Things do not look well for Julen Lopetegui, as he can be replaced on the Real Madrid bench just months after taking the job. The Blancos are coming off five matches without a victory, having drawn only one of those games. The latest that could have pushed Lopetegui over the edge was a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of their rivals, Barcelona.
Who will be the successor? The leading candidate at the moment is Santiago Solari. He is the current coach of their second squad, the Castilla. He also played with Real Madrid, making 131 appearances and scoring 23 goals in five years. It would be similar to the operation that brought Zidane to the bench, as he was also an in house candidate who grew at the club before taking over as manager.
Therefore, it seems like Solari is leading the race ahead of Antonio Conte, who would be a more experienced choice. Conte, however, continues to demand guarantees before accepting the challenge. The favorite to replace Lopetegui, is Santiago Solari.
