Milan are working on replacing Marco Giampaolo but they are in stand by as Luciano Spalletti negotiates the severance pay from his contract at Inter. The Tuscan manager has made into a matter of principle, he's asking for €5 million since he believes he was removed from a long term project and feels he was made into a scapegoat. For this reason, he doesn't want to settle for less from Inter to go coach Milan, which is why Maldini and Boban are looking for alternatives.
Stefano Pioli is back as a serious candidate, last season he coached Fiorentina after previously working for Lazio and Inter. Pioli is also a candidate for Genoa and Sampdoria but has given Milan the priority, which is why he is taking his time to respond to Sampdoria's proposal.
