La Liga will begin again on June 11, kicking off with the derby between Sevilla and Betis. The first two match days of the Spanish league will be played without a break between June 11 and 18, with the table leading Barcelona "debuting" on June 13 against Mallorca. The blaugrana, however, may have a major absence for the match: Lionel Messi.
The Argentine phenom has suffered an injury to his right quad. He should begin playing again in the coming days, but is at serious risk to miss the team's next match. He did not train on Wednesday, the team was on break Thursday, and today he only did recovery exercises. The club also completed their fourth swab testing this morning.
Other than Messi, Ansu Fati also completed individual work. Here is the team's statement:
"Messi and Ansu Fati trained apart from the team while awaiting the return to La Liga. Barça captain Leo Messi has a minor right quadriceps injury and trained in isolation, doing specific exercises to avoid unnecessary risks with just eight days remaining before Barça finally get back to playing matches. He should be able to rejoin his team-mates in a few days’ time."
