The unexpected defeat against Empoli proved that Atalanta are living a rollercoaster of a season, made of great wins - like the one against Inter before the international break - and disappointing performances, like the one against Iachini's side. La Dea's captain Alejandro 'Papu' Gomez can't put his finger on how they managed to give away a two-goal lead last week: "I can't understand what happened against empoli, it was a crazy game. After the Zapata-Pasalic substitution we lacked soe depth and we had a drop physically, we stopped attacking our opponent", Gomez said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
As a club who want to keep growing, Atalanta's goal for the season in to reach a European spot for the third season in a row, but Gomez doens't want to hear about it: "I am sick of hearing about Europe, there's no point in talking about this now, let's see where we are in March. We have potential, but we sometimes we are too presumptuous. We have to improve our mentality. We have high expectation on us, but every season is different. Not reaching Europe wouldn't be a failure. My position? I prefere playing on the left wing, but I am getting used to play as trequartista since we didn't find someone that could replace Cristante in that role".
