Interview by Alberto Trovamala
Things haven’t gone as planned for Stefano Okaka this season and he’s having a hard time finding some serenity. And to think that this “was supposed to be a fantastic season. This season at Watford I was never injured but I was always excluded because of technical choices. Many falsehoods were said about me. I even had to practice by myself and it wasn’t pleasant to deal with these situations. It was an odd year and a half, we’ll see what the future holds for me”
A season that was supposed to be the season where he fully established himself now that he turned 28 has turned into a nightmare for the Italian striker. 12 matches played in the Premier League, 1 goal, 1 assist and a significant amount of time spent at the margins. “There were problems that followed each other and I can’t still understand how it happened and then I was excluded” he stated in an exclusive interview with GianlucaDiMarzio.com. He never established a working relationship with manager Marco Silva: “then a new manager arrived (Javi Garcia) who is playing me and I think I’ve been able to help the team when called upon. Obviously my initial goals were different but if life gave me this, there must be a reason”
Stefano and Watford weren’t able to find a solution even during the transfer window: “In August I was very close to joining Sevilla but I would have stayed at Watford had things developed normally. Then things with Sevilla didn’t work out because the agreement wasn’t found on the last day. The same thing happened again with Galatasary in January, always on the last day” He also had been linked to Milan “but those were just rumors. But in the past I must admit yes, I was very close to joining Milan when I was at Samp. I was very comfortable with the blucerchiati but in the last month, also because of my contract, there were some misunderstandings. I didn’t play in the last 3 or 4 months and I believe Milan made their evaluations since they didn’t see me on the pitch. This is why I had to leave and start over with Anderlecht”
