Former Azzurri CT Gian Piero Ventura spoke with Radio CRC on his time managing the Nazionale and falling short of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
"I lived a negative experience with the National team. The regret is not understanding that I never should have accepted the job, there wasn't a way to bring my ideas around football forward. What happened could have thrown fire on the fire of enthusiasm, now I have more desire than before. When did I want to leave? During the entire period."
Ventura then spoke on leaving Insigne out of the match against Sweden, which eliminated Italy from qualification. "He's never spoken badly about me? And why should he? We have always had a good relationship. With Napoli he had never played as a center forward and depending on the formation you pick, at times a player can be penalized. A 4-3-3 against Sweden? With hindsight, anything could have been done. I would have put Insigne in to score and win that match," admitted Ventura.
