Contact continued between Atalanta and Tottenham today for Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender was identified by Spurs to improve their defensive line, but the total agreement is missing between the 2 clubs.
Tottenham wants to speed up the process because the Premier League has an earlier start date than Serie A. The London club starts their season on August 15 against Manchester City and they would like to have the defender avaliable for that game. New contacts are expected for next week.
Romero will return from vacation next week and will be called up by Atalanta on Monday to start his pre-season. The Argentine would like to seize the opportunity and move to Tottenham, who have offered 50 million euros including bonuses. Atalanta have asked for time to find a replacement.
Meanwhile, Atalanta remain active on the transfer market. They moved to close a deal with Verona for Lovato at a cost of 8 million euros plus 3 million euros in bonus. The player has already travelled to Bergamo to complete his medical visits and will sign 4 year contract with an option for a fifth year.
La Dea has three names on their list to replace Romero: Demiral, Luis Felipe and Tomiyasu. Lille's Botman will be the most challenging negotiations should Atalanta prosue that option.
