After the draw in the derby against Juventus, Torino has dropped down a bit in the race for a Champions League spot. However, the Granata's season can still be considered very positive, as nobody expected to be that close to the Champions League zone at this stage of the season. President Urbano Cairo discussed the race for an European spot and the future of the team in an interview with Radio Rai, during the show Radio Anch'io lo Sport: "Atalanta run away from the others and now there are only nine points up for grab. Reaching Champions League is tough, but we have to focus on one game at the time, not on the final objective. We have fallen behind, but we won't give up".

Cairo also revealed that the club wants to give continuity to the current project: "Our idea is to move forward with the same group of players and with Mazzarri as coach. Last year we managed to keep everyone, I hope we can do that same this year too. I think our sporting director Petrachi will stay with us, and I also think that the rumours about him having contacts with Roma are false. He has a contract through 2020 and if had held negotiations with another club he would have told me".
