After a season that ended in second place with 91 points, Maurizio Sarri will leave Napoli. After the manager’s meeting with president Aurelio De Laurentiis there were no more contacts between the parties, so the club decided to go in another direction with Ancelotti because Sarri didn’t give an answer quickly.
So what will the future hold for Sarri? It remains to be seen how he’ll be discharged from his position at Napoli. The bureaucratic aspect of the exit clause expired yesterday, but it could however be valid until the end of the month. Should Sarri accept Zenit’s offer, the Russian club would have to talk to De Laurentiis to “free” the manager. Zenit could pay the €8 million clause or offer some players in exchange or negotiate for different terms.
In any event Sarri has yet to give his approval for the Zenit move. The Russian club are convinced they want to hire him after offering him an annual salary of €4 million on top of numerous bonuses, they will invite Sarri to come visit their facilities and St Petersburg. They would like to convince the manage first before going back to Napoli to negotiate for his release. Napoli and Sarri are looking to the future which will no longer be together.
