Alessandro Nesta managed Perugia through the Serie B playoffs last season, but was unsuccessful in his bid to get the club to Serie A. He will try again this season as he stayed on as Perugia's coach. In an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss, he spoke about managing the club and his ties to Lazio: "If I arrived at Lazio it would mean that I did well with Perugia and have taken an important path. Lazio would be a point of arrival for me, not only because I was the captain there, but for anyone because it's a big team. Leaving Lazio as a player? To leave was difficult, for the fans and for me. A return to the club? It was spoken about for a few days, but then Milan did not want to sell me and Lazio evidently didn't have a strong desire to take me back. For this reason I remained at Milan."

He continued talking about his time at Perugia: "My adventure began well. This place is important, it is the perfect place for me to continue my managing career. The Italian national team? We are paying for the fact that we have a generation of players that are not as strong as we were. It's not easy to substitute strong players. It is necessary to invest more in the youth setup and in the managers. Romagnoli? I am a fan of his. I knew him: he is a great guy, from Lazio and plays for Milan. He is strong, to grow he needs a little international experience."
