While it’s been nine days since Diego Milito officially retired from football, his passion for the game has not changed. As an Ex Inter player, “The Prince” will not be missing the Milan derby. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports his thoughts ahead of the game:
“It’s true, Milan look like they’re heading in to the match with better conditions. Inter has a superior squad, but the “rossoneri” have proven their superior team spirit. Well done to Montella, I quite like him. The standings say Milan are the favorites, but this is a derby, and in these games the favorites often lose. I remember when Leonardo took the coaching job after Benitez, we were predicted to win but Inter ended up taking the game 3-0”.
Milito isn’t on the same page with the coach sacking at Inter: “de Boer gave me a good impression, I think sacking him was a mistake. He’s a great person, and a coach with winning ideas. He could have instilled a new mentality in the team. He just needed time. Pioli? Great coach as well, perhaps slightly more of a ‘classic’ coach as opposed to de Boer”.
In closing, he mentions Icardi and Balotelli: “Icardi the derby decider? I sure hop so, although I’m fine with just winning! I feel like in the next few call ups, Icardi can have some space for Argentina. Balotelli? I haven’t seen many people do the things he can do in training. But if he doesn’t change mentality…’
