A crucial day for Milan's managerial future is starting, as they are set to sack Marco Giampaolo. As a replacement, the Rossoneri have chosen Stefano Pioli, who - after the contacts held on Monday - will meet the club today to put pen to paper on the deal.
The negotiations between Inter and Spalletti hit a wall and were not picked up from where they had stopped. Both Inter and the coach are holdin their positions about the severance package requested by Spalletti. The gap between the coach's demands and the Nerazzurri's offer is too big to be narrowed, despite Spalletti having already reached an agreement with Milan on a contract with the same salary (€5 million after taxes) and length (two-year deal) of the one that he signed for Inter.
The severance pay of one-year salary demanded by the former Roma and Zenti boss was deemed too steep by Inter, which lead the negotiations to fall through. That clears the path of Stefano Pioli to the Rossoneri job, with Giampaolo already notified of the decision to dismiss him. Today, Milan will meet both Giampaolo to terminate the working relationship and also Pioli to settle the details of the deal, who should be reached on the basis of a two-year contract.
