He may have ruptured his ligaments, but being on the sidelines hasn’t impeded Montolivo from enjoying Milan’s progress. He spoke to Sky Sport on his current thoughts:
“Overall both the individuals and the team collectively have significantly improved, it’s a joy to watch. A lot of the merit for this goes to Montella: He did great to revitalise certain players and create an attacking style of play. He was also brilliant in isolating the team from everything going on at the managerial level”.
The players are aware that the club is going through change: “We know that there’s ongoing negotiations, but we also know that everything happening is for the good of the club. Obviously I’d be upset to see Berlusconi leave, but I’m sure he’d leave Milan in good hands. We need to concentrate on the pitch. Our goal is to return to Europe. Time will tell if it’ll be in the Champions League or Europa League”.
Montolivo believes in Locatelli: “I have a great relationship with him. He’s a good guy who listens a lot. His talent is evident and I’m sure he’ll have a great career”.
