Milan, Montella: ‘Small chance of seeing Romagnoli. Donnarumma? You get used to transfer speculations'

The first time is always a memorable one. Perhaps even more so for Vincenzo Montella, as he will lead his Milan from the bench in his first derby against Inter. Many topics were covered in the press conference, Montella begins with his young Italian center back: ‘There’s not much hope of seeing Romagnoli on the pitch, we can’t risk losing him for several months. I was at the stadium watching him play and I almost ran onto the pitch myself to stop him. He’s young, it’s normal to not think about these things, so we’ll forgive him’.

On the derby: ‘Other than the fact that it’s a derby, the game itself is a very difficult one. I don’t mind being considered as favourites. I don’t necessarily feel like we are. If we’re stronger, the standings will speak for us. This won’t be a decisive game for either team, but it’s definitely important to us’.

A comment on the forwards at his disposal and his opponents: ‘Perisic, Icardi and Candreva are world-class players. I don’t think the change in coach is what will give Inter an extra push, but the match itself. Bacca? He’s played a ton and scored plenty, he has nothing to prove anymore. Lapadula dying to play is a great issue for me to have. I’m calm because I know both will provide exactly what I need from them. Lapadula has more of a chance to play than is thought’.

He ends by talking about some transfer rumours regarding Jovetic and Donnarumma: ‘Jovetic and I met up by chance in a restaurant. We sat on separate tables. He’s grown a lot and I’m happy what he has achieved. That being said, I’m the coach for Milan, he plays for Inter, and the transfer session is far away. Now is not the time to think about this. The rumours about Donnarumma haven’t bothered me one bit. Nowadays there’s always speculation about the market session, you get used to it’.
