Milan technical director Paolo Maldini was interviewed on "AC Milan Talk" on the club's official Twitch channel. There, Maldini cast aside doubts on the departure of Donnarumma, who will leave Milan.
"We must thank all the players who made this incedible season. Gigio was absolutely a leader and a captain. People struggle to understand what it means to be a professional, that you must be ready to change stripes."
"I know this is difficult to accept but I believe that respect is due for what Donnarumma gave to Milan. The paths are divided but I only wish him the best."
The replacement for Donnarumma has already been identified, former Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan underwent medicals on Tuesday and will soon be name officially as the team's new goalkeeper.
