Milan tied Cagliari, and were unable to maintain their winning ways after defeating Roma in league player prior to the international break. The rossoneri began poorly and gave up an early goal to Joao Pedro. Higuain tied the match in the second half, scoring his first goal in a Milan shirt and settling the final score at 1-1. Gennaro Gattuso spoke to Sky Sport after the match: "Let's talk about the start we had. It's a problem we need to resolve -- it was embarrassing stuff. This is an aspect in which we must improve, because if you go down 2-0, you don't recover from that. We must not think of what we did well, for 20 minutes we played a very ugly match from a tactical and mental level. When you see that there's pressure, you can end up playing a different type of soccer. In the second time we played better."
The rossonero manager then spoke on Higuain's play and the fire he showed at the end: "Is there a tendency to overdo it with Gonzalo? I didn't say this, because when he plays it helps the team. We must do well to take advantage of his movement with wingers and mezz'ale. Was he angry at the end? We need to make him understand that this is a young and strong team, a team that still doesn't know what it means to do more. We knew we were going into a complicated environment and a small pitch, but we still suffered. We cannot be angry at the end a match because we could have won, we need to think of that prior."
To close, Gattuso spoke on the high expectations on Milan: "The road is still long. We are a team that has potential, but if you aren't able to win these games -- and today went well -- it makes me laugh to hear that we are the second or third best team. Not because I want to put our hand forward, but because we always need to keep a knife in our teeth. We have poison, but we aren't able to bring it out. I'm happy for the positive things, but we need to read the game well."
