The change in ownership at Milan hasn't taken the focus away from negotiating an extension to Gigio Donnarumma's contract. The eighteen year old keeper has become a symbol for the club and the new owners and directors want to keep him long term. While there have been some contacts with the keeper's agent Mino Raiola, the first formal meeting has yet to take place since Raiola is heading to Pittsburgh to be with Ibrahimovic when he has his surgery- the parties will update each other this weekend.
Milan's new directors Fassone and Mirabelli want to lock up Donnarumma with a long term deal that features an annual salary of a top player, they are also willing to offer him the captain's armband. The final decision will be up to the keeper who has strong ties to Milan and is thankful for the opportunities he's been given: he could emulate Gigi Buffon who said "No" to Milan when Juventus was relegated to Serie B to stay at the club and be a key piece of their rebuilding project.
Milan has however decided to place a deadline on the negotiation for around June 30th, in case they aren't able to reach an agreement by then, Donnarumma would still be considered off the market until June of 2018 when his contract expires, but Milan would start looking for a replacement. But Milan's intentions are clear- they want to keep Donnarumma and make him into a "bandiera" at the club.
