The ex defender for both Inter and the Italian National team spoke to Il Corriere dello Sport. Among the topics, were his comments on Inter’s current coach:
“We should wait until the end, that’s when all the numbers are crunched and everything is evaluated. That being said, Inter did not start well, but the team has grown a lot since then. When he got here, Pioli found a terrible situation. If Inter calls, you can’t reject. But if you do accept, the risk to fail is high. Pioli did well to create a tight knit group. The players didn’t really change, but he helped them give it their all. I think we should keep him, but I don’t know what the club is thinking. Who can say that they expected Mourinho to arrive, right after Mancini had won the title in 2008? Pioli will want to remain and confirm his spot, but there’s a lot of stairs to climb in football…I doubt the managers will change him with someone of his own stature. If there was the possibility to go for a top coach….The top coaches aren’t available at the moment though, as one of them is with Manchester United. Conte? He proved that he is essential in all teams he works in. I did have some issues with him in the past, but nobody can deny the greatness of his work at Chelsea. Together with Ancelotti, he’s the best Italian coach out there”.
