The first months as a Juventus player haven’t been easy for Miralem Pjanic, as the expectations were high for him to be the next Andrea Pirlo. He has had his fair share of criticism, but lately, the Bosnian midfielder has shown he may be turning a new leaf. Tuttosport reports an interview with Pjanic, where he begins talking about his role:
“Playing as an attacking midfielder isn’t that important. Obviously I used to be more comfortable, but in Rome I played further back in the pitch for five years… It was a different style of football. Roma does a lot more short passing and possession football, here the focus is moving the ball up the field. It took more than I would have wanted to get a better feel of the club, but my qualities will show in the long run. I saw what was said about me, there’s no need for me to get criticism to know if I played well or not. Juventus is a demanding club, I’m here to improve. I wanted this environment, the titles, this level of challenge. Criticism comes and goes, it’s part of football”.
Is Pjanic ready to become a leader?: “Yes, I want to take responsibility for my actions, it’s why I’m here. I know I’m in a place where you have to be accountable; there are numerous quality players all helping the entire team and me give everything they have. Higuain? He doesn’t need me to get chances, he makes his own”.
