There is a long appetizing list of free agents who might end up fixing quite a couple of issues with various squads around the world. Since last July the free-agent list has grown quite substantially and filled up with names that can still excite the crowds. A dream for many fans of smaller league clubs for example is Ronaldinho who has been free for quite a while. There are plenty other names that can both fill gaps from a techincal standpoint or simply get a buzz going amongst the fans.
Defenders: The more interesting name that is still available remains that of Martin Caceres the player can still make an impact in high level clubs and could be a big signing for most Serie A clubs. Philippe Mexes was not convinced by Adrian Mutu's Dinamo Bucarest and their projects and continues to look around himself for a solution. The Frenchman has plenty of experience and character: might be a great deal. Felipe Santana plied his trade mostly in the Bundesliga: 119 appearances and 7 goals to show. Has been free since summer after an experience in Russia with Kuban Krasnodar. Alex the former Milan defender is also a free agent and enjoyed playing for very high level clubs in his career. Then there is Joleon Lescott who has 300 Premier League appearances for both Manchester City and Aston Villa under his belt.
Adoulaye Bamba has six years in France on his shoulders and might just be what is needed for a few Serie B sides. Maicon is still in Rome and trains regularly, he might not be the same from Inter's treble era but remains a class right-back. On the left side meanwhile there is the power and speed of Juan Manuel Vargas, however it appears he has already found a solution: Atlanta United. Finally the former Juventus man Marco Motta who has played two years in the Championship is also an interesting option.
Midfielders: Amongst the more illustrous midfielders who are currently free resides a certain Michael Essien, who after leaving Panathanaikos in September was close to Melbourne Victory but unfortunately for the former Milan and Chelsea man, the deal fell through. Joey Barton is also free after leaving Rangers due to betting on 44 games between September and November, violating the Scottish FA's rules. Another former Premier League protagonist on this list is Oussama Assaidi, 28 year old who left Al-Ahli mid november. The ex-Liverpool and Stoke City star is looking for a club to relaunch his career from. Charles N'Zogbia also has a very important past in England: he was also offered to Napoli in the summer. Raul Meireles had the opportunity to link up with fellow Portuguese Bruno Alves at Cagliari but remains free. The former Liverpool and Chelsea has 50 showings in the CL. Diego Poyet is the son of ex-Chelsea star Gustavo Poyet, discrete signing for a club in need of a true defensive mid.
Strikers: 29 year old Kevin Constant has 105 appearances in the Serie A and 12 in the Champions League, still looking for a workplace. For Bokso Jankovic 20 goals in 161 apps. The Serbian winger also has been free since the summer. There aren't many names for the true strikers available but most of them are former worldclass players. Emmanuel Adebayor could have joined Cagliari but is still looking for a club after Crystal Palace, 97 Premier League goals for him. Between the Bundesliga and Eredivise Jefferson Farfan has been the nightmare of plenty defenders and remains one of the free agents with the most quality. Finally former Manchester City striker Jo, is still unemployed but it appears he has found a solution: he will play for Corinthians.
