He won the Euro Cup with Portugal, only to say good-bye to his nation straight after for Inter: Joao Mario now returns, but just to play for his country. He shows he hasn’t forgotten where he comes from in his press conference: “I’m happy about the choice that was made this summer, I definitely don’t regret it. I’m proud of everything I’m doing, but I can’t lie: I have some nostalgia for Sporting”.
He explains the differences between Italian and Portuguese football: “Serie A is an extremely tactical and physical league, I didn’t expect this level of aggressiveness. I need to improve in this sense, because you’ll find yourself in a lot of duels here in Italy. I think the Italian league is slightly better than the Portuguese one: I’ve improved because of this”.
Every player has the same goal, to represent their country: “We work in our clubs to get right here. The objective for any player is just that, working hard to represent your nation”.
