In his first few months at Inter, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku showed that he has all the right credential to follow in his predecessors' footsteps as he scored 9 goals in his first 12 appereances in Serie A with his new club. A club that last summer substantied their - and especially their coach's - desire to bring the former United player to San Siro, making him the record-breaking signing in the club's history. A desire that was equally reciprocated by Lukaku, as the Belgian revealed in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

"I've always wanted to play for the Nerazzurri. As soon as I understood that this club wanted me, I made my decision and told my agent. I was a great fan of Adriano when he was here at Inter and Ronaldo too. I said to myself that if I ever had the opportunity to play in Italy I would have done it only at Inter".

Lukaku then talked about the coach that pushed to have him at the club, Antonio Conte: "He wants to win all the time, he motivates us and prepares the game to perfection. I have never seen something like this in my career: when I go on the pitch I am prepared to every situation. There's nothing that can catch us by surprise. Conte is a leader and we, the players, follow him and focus only on the team. Icardi? The comparisons between him and me didn't cause me any sort of problem. He was very nice to me when I got here, he welcomed me at the club. I whish him the best at Psg and I hope he can win there. However, I didn't feel the pressure of following into his footsteps. We are two different strikers. He made his journey here whilst my adventure has just begun. I have to keep scoring and working everyday to help the team and prove that Inter made the right choice buying me".

Finally, the Belgian touched upon Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a former teammate of his that could return to Italy: "Zlatan is a warrior. We have lot of things in common as we both went through hard times since we were kids and when we talked we understood each other immediately. He is in the top three for the most intellignet players that I have ever met. Not everyone knows that he helped me a lot when I arrived at United. He used to sit in the back of the bus with me and we talked a lot, he gave me great piece of advice. He is a great player and he has that 'dog mentality', the mentality of a player that will never give up. I think that he will come back in Serie A", concluded Lukaku.
