Eder’s first goal of the season coincides with Inter’s lowest point. The ‘nerazzurri’ lose their third consecutive Serie A game, and despite their success with Southampton, they are still very much in a crisis. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Eder comments on the game:
‘We basically didn’t show up in the first half. In the second half it looked like we could have taken the victory with the chances from Perisic and Joao Mario. In the end we actually ended up losing. I can’t tell why we always start poorly, all we can do is work. Each one of us has to dig deep and bring something extra to the table. As individuals we’re a strong team, but we aren’t working as a unit, and on the field it shows. We have no choice but to change gears right now. We’re coming out of three consecutive losses, there’s no room for error anymore’.
de Boer? It’s not only his fault: ‘The coach takes the blame? A month ago after we beat Juve, word on the street was that he was a genius…It’s not all his fault, everyone is responsible. It was obviously difficult to go through a change of coach one week before the beginning of the season, but it’s been over two months. We can’t keep using that as an excuse. We try and fulfill his idea of football, but we can’t even find consistency within a single game. Even though their winning goal came in the final minutes from an avoidable penalty, it doesn’t change the fact that we lost far too many challenges. Last season Inter started well and struggled in the ends. The opposite could still happen this season’.
Despite scoring, his mood doesn’t change: ‘It’s nice to have scored but I’m certainly not happy. I’d definitely have traded my goal for a victory. I try and give it my all every day, but it’s tough to get a rhythm when I only play the final 15-20 minutes of a game. Nonetheless I respect the coaches decisions’.
