A season of bad fortune for Stefano Sturaro. In the match against Torino two weeks ago, he picked up an injury, specifically to his knee. As a result, he had to have surgery and has been sidelined for the remainder of the season; he will return to the field for the 2019/2020 campaign. Below, the official club statement.

"Genoa Cricket and Football Club announce that Italian footballer Stefano Sturaro has undergone arthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee with the patellar tendon in the presence of the club's medical officer, doctor Dr. Piero Gatto. The intervention was performed at Villa Stuart by Professor Pier Paolo Mariani and the operation was perfectly successful. The midfielder will remain in the capital for the first phase of his rehabilitation protocol and then will return to Liguria after the verification of regular movements".
