The injury of Christian Kouamé and the troubling position in the table (in 18th place) are pushing Genoa to step up the timetable and bolster the team in order to avoid relegation under new coach Thiago Motta. The Rossoblu are in fact in advanced negotiations with Hammarby for Swedish 1994-born winger Tankovic, who will be acquired in next January transfer window.
President Preziosi, however, is also considering the option to draw from the free agent list and one of the options currently under evaluation is that of Hatem Ben Arfa. The 32-year old Frenchman, who was at PSG with Motta from 2016 to 2018, was released by his last club, Rennes, after that his one-year deal expired in June 2019. Ben Arfa was also very close to joining Genoa a few months ago, as he had talks with former coach Andreazzoli, before the club decided against signing him at the time. With Koumé sidelined for several months, however, the Rossoblu are now making thier evalutations and possibly retrace their steps and signing Ben Arfa.
