He arrived in Serie A from Fluminese in 2016 with many expectations, dreams and ambitions. With Roma, however, very few appearances. Gerson played in 42 matches with Roma, scoring 2 goals. Against whom? Fiorentina, ironically, which is now his actual team after arriving on loan. Now he has one year to understand how pasta is made and to show that he can make it in Italy: "It was a decision made by Roma," Gerson specified in an interview with Globo Esporte. "When I arrived in giallorosso, the project specified that in my third year, I'd play the most. And Fiorentina can allow that to happen, giving me the possibility to chase my dream: the Brazilian national team."
These are clear ideas for the 21-year-old midfielder that wants to be part of Brazil's newest cycle. A lot will depend on his play in viola: "The expectations are the best possible. The group, the environment and the structure that I've found here will give us the support to do great things. Other than the importance of the shirt and its history, Fiorentina can rely on very trustworthy leadership," he continued.
His rights, however, remain under Roma's ownership: "The experience in giallorosso was sensational. I don't think that my story there is finished, as I have a contract with Roma until 2021. I'm very grateful for all that the club has given me. I learned a lot and I still have plenty to learn. The Italian league is defensive and tactical, there's not much space to play. At the beginning it was complicated, but with time and training I adapted to it. Now I'm a much versatile player and I hope to continue this development with Fiorentina."
