Chelsea are taking a serious look at the contract status of four players who are central to their defensive setup. The group of players all have contracts expiring next June.
Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and César Azpilucueta are those in question, and while talks for extending the Brazilian have more or less fallen into place already, the other three stand a less likely chance of renewing their contract.
Rudiger should soon decide his future: there is a proposal from Chelsea on the table, or, he could choose a new path (a potential option that would please him is Real Madrid). The situation for his two teamates is similar, Azpilicueta is asking for a two-year contract with option for a third year. Chelsea want to give him only a one-year deal with a one year option, with Barcelona awaiting a possible attempt to sign him in June.
The same blaugrana are the reason that Christensen's extension has stalled. In recent weeks the deal seemed close to being completed, on the base of a four-year deal with option, but the Danish center back has changed agents, meaning a deal has to be reworked. There is also the lingering idea of changing clubs, with Barça waiting in the wings.
