Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini achieved a prestigious and important milestone yesterday against Portugal, as he made his 100th appearance in the azzurri shirt. He now ranks seventh all-time in appearances for the squad, behind legends like Zoff, Pirlo, De Rossi, as well as Buffon and Cannavaro, who are in a special class with 176 and 136 respective appearances.
Yesterday it was Buffon who congratulated Chiellini on this great achievement, and today is Fabio Cannavaro's turn. Cannavaro and Chiellini played together at Juventus and was the capitan of the squad when Chiellini first joined the national team. On Instagram, Cannavaro dedicated a brief, but impactful, post to Chiellini: "My friend, welcome to the 100 Club."
