With Real Madrid-Napoli nearing its start, the ex player for the Blancos spoke to AS about the emotions regarding this Champions League Matchup:
“My dream was always to return to the Bernabeu for a match: I wanted to face Real Madrid. Obviously I didn’t expect this matchup instantly after the groups, but the draw has decided it would be like this. Everyone in Naples is awaiting this game, but we can’t talk about it until after the game with Genoa, otherwise Sarri will be mad. Either way, we’re talking about the best team in the world, we have to be wary of every player. I still speak with Sergio Ramos and Morata. I also complimented Cristiano Ronaldo on his Ballon D’or victory. Zidane? He’s doing great, but I’m not surprised.”
On the decision to leave Madrid: “I felt the need to take the next step in my career and become a protagonist on the pitch. When Benitez called me he said I’d be happy with Napoli: I replied with an instant yet. With Rafa I learned a lot, won two trophies, and I can only thank him for that. After he left, I never had any offers from Spain. I was waiting to know Sarri first, and we had instant chemistry: I love his style of football. He told me he counted on me, and now the results speak for themselves. A return to Spain? I’m not even considering it, I just renewed my contract and I’m happy here in Naples.”
