Under manager Rolando Maran, Cagliari have won 14 points so far and are far away from the relegation zone. Important results while another satisfaction comes from the Italian national team as Mancini has called up three Sardinian players: Cragno, Barella and Pavoletti. It didn't happen since 2013 that there would be three Cagliari players together called up with Italy. Interviewed by Radio Anch'io, Rolando Maran said "credit goes to president Giulini who's succeeded in bringing important players to Cagliari, with a great potential so that they could get to the national team. The players also work hard all week, and then there's the coach who contributes to give a certain physiognomy to the team to exalt the individualities".

Maran then talks about Barella who's already shined for the Italian national team, and about Pavoletti: "The president has done well in keeping a player like Barella. He's playing very well, growing game after game even if he's a young player he's got a great character. He's already shown what he's made of with the Italian national team, but it's only the beginning. I think he'll play a lot with the Azzurri. He has a bright future ahead. Pavoletti? He's an important footballer. He's living a fantastic moment from a personal point of view. He plays for the team and is a complete type of player, in his prime".

"In a club's economy, there are some aspects that need to be must be taken into account. You sometime need to make sacrifices and give the players the ability to play in important competitions to keep playing at a good level. This is a lot of clubs' reality, we need to keep important players while also acknowledging their ambitions and the financial aspect. Atalanta is definitely a model to follow".
