After an excellent start to the season, Watford find themselves two points ahead of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Director Filippo Giraldi shared some insight on his club’s resurgence recently in an exclusive interview with GianlucaDiMarzio.com:”Honestly even we didn’t expect these results but the team is doing great work also thanks to a great structure and coach. Obviously we were hoping this would happen, the goal however hasn’t changed: play every match aggressively, by imposing ourselves. We’ll see at the end of the season what happens. I live the matches very poorly, so much tension, thank god that I don’t rewatch myself on television, like a good Tuscan I let passion take over”
This season Giraldi was given more responsibility since he went from being a scout to technical director:”When I can still travel I do since it’s my great passion. Since I became a director I have more contact with the team especially before a big match but in general I try to do both things. This is a full time job: twenty four hours a day, sometimes I would like to recharge but I can’t, I envy my colleagues who can, I wouldn’t change my job at Watford for anything in the world, for me it’s not a job but rather it’s my team”
Giraldi has really enjoyed watching Richarlison a talent acquired despite Ajax and Milan’s competition:”While I do prefer talking about the work of the group rather than the individual, regarding Richarlison we had been following him for awhile but we had to decide if he was suited for the Premier League or not. In the end the manager liked him and he speaks his same language so he convinced him with a phone call and because we had a great relationship with his entourage we anticipated the competition. He can grow with us step by step so he can be ready someday for a great team, his destiny is to do great things but in meantime we’ll hold on tightly to him”
