Ventura speaks after Chievo defeated by Atalanta: "We need to work on the basics"

Giampiero Ventura's return to the touchline ended in heavy defeat for the former Azzurri coach's side. Chievo were dispatched 5-1 by Atalanta, a lopsided affair for which Ventura shared in some of the blame for himself. The coach spoke to Sky Sport about the result: "On a numbers basis this is not a match you can comment on, as if it had never happened. There was never a chance because even the most simple moves were beyond our capacity. We began discussing tactics these last six days but as a matter of imposing personality, I maybe needed to take a step back, that was probably my mistake. We must capitalize on the components that have always described Chievo, like toughness. We also need to improve fitness which will allow us to keep ourselves within our system, while after a half-hour some of the players were already dropping out of shape. We will make changes tomorrow, we will talk less about tactics and more on the basics for a football team: toughness, determination, and the rest."
