After coming up short in the Champions League final, Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen still has a long future to write. While the pain of the Champions League loss lingers, the season remained a positive one for Eriksen, who appeared 51 times and provided 10 goals and 17 assists.
With a contract that expires in 2020 and a certain desire to take on new challenges after six years with the Spurs: "I feel like I've arrived at a certain point in my career in which I may want to try something new," said Eriksen while training with the Danish national team leading up to Euro 2020 qualifying matches against Ireland and Georgia.
"I have great respect for the years spent at Tottenham, but I would like to so something new." Also because, besides offers, it seems likely that Tottenham will let his contract expire in 2020. "I hope that there's some clarity over the summer. In football, you never know. Anything can happen at any moment. It takes time."
"It depends on president Daniel Levy. Do I leave? It takes another club to have discussions. Otherwise I need to sit myself at the table and negotiate a new contract. But I cannot set the meeting by myself."
With Tottenham being the runners-up in Champions League, there are only a few teams that would represent a jump in quality: "If I need to leave, I hope to do it by taking a step forward. Real Madrid? That would be it, but Real would need to call Tottenham. And for now, as far as I know, that hasn't happened."
