Torino president Cairo: "Belotti not called-up in national team could be an extra stimulus for him"

Torino aren't quite there yet. Walter Mazzarri wasn't the only angry one after Frosinone's allowed goal, despite Goldaniga's foul on the granata goalkeeper Sirigu. So was president Urbano Cairo who couldn't understand how VAR wasn't used and has talked to Radio Anch'io Sport: "I'm satisfied by this Torino, even if obviously everything can be improved but we've got 12 points and are 3 points away from the Champions League zone. We had four games in which they made us angry with errors, such as the penalty not given on Iago Falque last Friday or the red card not given to Koulibaly. Without these errors, Torino could be at Lazio's level today. It's absurd VAR is there but not used".

The president also talked about Lazzari, SPAL's midfielder who seemed secured by Torino for the summer transfer window. "We're absolutely not thinking about the coming mercato, we've got Ansaldi and many youngsters for that role. We're not securing any players at the moment even if Lazzari is a great player".

About Belotti not called-up in Nazionale: "I think Mancini is selecting a lot of players to try everyone and in this case, he's chosen other players. Belotti has to play well like he is now, get back stronger than before so that the national coach has difficulties to pick the players for his list. The fact he has to do better to get his spot back could be an extra stimulus".

About the Scudetto and Ljajic's transfer to Besiktas: "I'm ambitious and I've always tried to aim for the best, winning the Scudetto isn't easy. If your books are about 70m and goes up to 100m when you sell someone, but is only a fifth of Juve's who has 540m, there's a big gap to fight for the title. Without even thinking about Napoli, Milan, Roma and the others... We have to improve year after year, the economic factor is important.

We didn't sell Ljajic but loaned him. He's the one who made the choice because he wanted to be sure to always play. Soriano arrived and will show he's a quality midfielder, but we also have Iago Falque. It becomes difficult to make a player stay if he doesn't want to, you can also feel it in the locker room".
