After a slow start, Spanish winger Suso proved once more his instrumental role in Milan scoring 4 goals and assisting 8 in the first twelve rounds of the Serie A. The former Liverpool winger, currently on international duty, talked about his career in an interview with 'El Primer Palo' on EsRadio, revealing also a behind-the-scene transfer story that could have involved him last summer.
"After returning to Liverpool from the year on loan to Almeria I had one more year left on my contract. The club wanted to offer me an extension but then the opportunity to join Milan came along. I wanted to try new things and despite Milan not being in the best place I decided to go to Milan".
"When I joined the Rossoneri I was recovering from an injury to the adductors that had kept me sidelined for 4-5 months. When Sinisa arrived I was feeling well, but with him I didn't play much so I went to Genoa. - continued Suso - where I found a very good coach like Gasperini. I could show my qualities at Genoa and prove that I could play at Milan". The Spaniard also commented his club's current situation: "Of course Milan are not the same club that they used to be, but thanks to this club I managed to earn a spot in the Spain team. This mean that things are going well and that makes me proud. In the summer Atletico Madrid contacted me. I had a 40 million release clause and the price could go even higher with time. Only a few clubs in Spain could be interested in players with such a price. I had just signed an extension with Milan and I didn't want to leave, I love Italy and Milan. I never thought about returning to La Liga", concluded Suso.
