After making a name for himself in Serie A at Benevento last season, Roberto De Zerbi is ready to take the next step in his career at Sassuolo. The win against Inter on Sunday was certainly a good omen, but De Zerbi tried to downplay it’s importance in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport:”This is August football, some results aren’t reliable, despite the loss to my team I still believe Inter is Juventus’ biggest antagonist. We can only defeat certain opponents if they don’t play a great match. We expressed ourselves at a high level, although we could do better in second half by passing the ball in their half of the pitch, to slow down the rhythm of the match and take them out of the game”
De Zerbi was asked about his experience at Benevento and how it shaped his style:”I experienced a fundamental season there. I especially learned how to manage significant players like Sandro and Sagna. In my football there’s always something new. You must be smart to get the most out of players, without giving up on your core principles”
