An investment of another 10 million euros to continue to grow, a new sporting center to guarantee Sassuolo the essential benefits to affirm themselves as a solid member of the Italian league: today was the inauguration of the Mapei Football Centre, the new neroverde grounds desired by Giorgio Squinzi. During the occasion, Sky Sport interviewed manager Roberto De Zerbi, targeted by Roma in the past weeks, who spoke on the market and the future of the club:
"This year we will look to show that we're a group of men and players adapt to ownership that's ambitious and strong, needing to show that choosing me, my staff and players was a good decision. Squinzi? To have a boss that's so ambitious isn't pressure, but a stimulus. The ambition, brought ahead with clear ideas, always pays back. I like to dream, always keeping reality in mind."
After a great year leading Sassuolo, De Zerbi was a main target to take over the Roma bench: "On my part there was never a doubt on this club. It was a pleasure to see my name wanted by the big clubs, but I never thought about changing."
On the market: "We need a few more skilled elements, but the quality will never be put in second place. The market needs to be done with clarity and lucidity. I need to ask the club to look for players that can make a difference. Sensi? I expect a phone call after tomorrow's match with the Nazionale and I hope that he tells me that he wants to remain. He has the abilities to play in the European competitions but knows that he has fun here and he's stimulated in all the ways. It's the same discussion for Boateng and all of those that have a market. To play for Sassuolo, you need to have strong motivations. If they have the fire inside to do another year or two, the doors are wide open."
