They won the 2016 Euro together, but there’s one thing Fernando Santos regrets doing with Cristiano Ronaldo back in the day. Portugal’s manager revealed that he’s still kicking himself for a decision he made back in 2003 by playing Ronaldo against Manchester United when the two were still at Sporting Lisbon, during that match Alex Ferguson fell in love with the young striker.
This is how Santos recalls that decision:”I should have never played Ronaldo against Manchester United- he told As- because I gave him a few minutes on the pitch, I found myself without him. On that day he had two assist, that is exactly when we realized what he could become.
Santos was asked about Ronaldo’s current form:”His future? I believe he can play another three or four years. It’s not normal for a 34 year old to score 50 goals, this is why I think he can play for a long time”.
