Sampdoria is moving away from their pursuit of Napoli's Lorenzo Tonelli, instead focusing on young defender Lucas Martínez Quarta from River Plate. Rumors for Tonelli have been persistent, especially as he was left off of Napoli's list for Champions League. The 1996-born Martínez Quarta has been the subject of a €5m offer by Sampdoria but there is a pending doping judgement against the Argentine. A decision could come by mid-August. Meanwhile, River's coach has publicly requested that Martínez Quarta not be sold. The player's exit clause is set at €15m, and Sampdoria's offer is only a third of that. Nonetheless, the young defender remains one of the top targets for the Italian club.
