Sampdoria started off well, with two wins in as many games. Then they stopped winning altogether: 4 consecutive defeats and a last-second tie against Palermo. In an interview to Secolo XIX, president Massimo Ferrero reiterated his confidence in coach Giampaolo, but also demanded that his investments are valued on the pitch. He was surely unsatisfied, but angry?: "I wasn't angry. And, in any case, my anger is always 'proactive': I want the best for Sampdoria and I get pissed off to make us better, not to bring us down. Giampaolo? He has my total and unconditional confidence. I always maintained my view that he is the greatest master of football there is, and he needs to be given time. He's very straightforward, but a curve every now and then can give you some nice surprises."
On the tie against Palermo: "If we don't win at home against Palermo, when will we? Fortunately we tied, but at the very end. I will defend Giampaolo until the death, but this is my third year as president and it is the year of maturity: no more experiments. I want to win, and for that reason, we have invested everything to create a strong team that should have won against Palermo at home, not drawn at the last second." Ferrero then talked about his intentions to return back to Genoa soon: "I will go there soon, because talking in front of a plate of spaghetti with pesto is always better. I'm not a person with an evil spirit, but an entrepreneur. What else can I say? We have a lot of young players who are very talented and a great master to coach them: I am completely convinced we will reach the goals that we have set. I expect that the investments I made will be valued so that we can win."
