For the second season in a row, Barcelona suffered a historic collapse in the second leg of a Champions League fixture. After losing 3-0 to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in last year's quarterfinals, they now lost to Liverpool 4-0 at Anfield in this year's semis. Ronaldo, the ex-Barcelona player, spoke about the loss and the performance of Lionel Messi to Marca: "Barcelona has a great team. They have the best player in the world, Messi, and the other day I heard that the loss was the fault of Valverde, Coutinho but never Messi's fault. Instead, when they win it's the Barcelona of Messi that wins. It's a tremendous injustice for all of the players and the staff."

"The game? Liverpool's intensity wasn't a surprise for Barcelona, but they were missing a little luck. The first leg was a great game from Barcelona with an extraoridnary performance by Messi, but in the second leg Liverpool ate up Barcelona with intensity and desire."

"Real Madrid? The fans are very demanding, they want to always win, but this isn't possible. We don't need to create a huge problem, the Madrid team is a winning team. I don't know Zidane's intention for next year, but I wish him well and we'll be happy to see Real win titles again. He returned because at Real Madrid you don't need motivation, it's the biggest club in the world, they suffered a very complicated season and obviously the people have confidence in him because his story is incredible, both as a player and as a manager."
