Cristiano Ronaldo will not be called up for the match between Manchester United and Chelsea (which is scheduled for next Saturday) because of leaving the field early in last night’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portuguese player, in fact, after staying on the bench in yesterday's game against Tottenham, had returned to the locker room before the final whistle. Today, the club's official statement arrived: "Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the squad for this Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea."
After Manchester United's official statement, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to post on his Instagram profile to have his say on the issue: "As I've always done in my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my opponents and my coaches. This hasn't changed. I haven't changed. I'm the same person and the same professional who has played in elite football for the past 20 years, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process."
Futhermore Ronaldo stated: "I started very young, the examples of bigger and more experienced players have always been very important to me. Therefore, later on, I have always tried to set an example myself for the young people who grew up in all the teams I represented.Unfortunately, it's not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the better of us."
Finally, Ronaldo said: "Right now, I just feel like I have to keep working hard in Carrington, supporting my teammates and being ready for anything in any game.Giving in to pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we have to stand up. Soon we will be together again."
