Amid uncertain times globally, Roma faces many questions in the sporting area within the club.
There has been a stalling at the club level, which has become more noticeable as time passes since the change of ownership failed to take hold. The sale to Dan Friedkin is a question mark: not closed, but in a stage towards lowered renegotiations thanks to the events of the past few months.
While president James Pallotta is focused on the future, whether he remains owner or part-owner of Roma, but the club’s present requires tending to. Sporting director Petrachi has a long to-do list, including deciding on the future of Smalling, Mkhitaryan, and other players on loan, plus the plan for Roma’s crown jewels Zaniolo and Pellegrini. Petrachi currently cannot bring in any new player, even on a Bosman transfer. The heat around the names of Pedro or Vertonghen has cooled while Roma pauses, though they continue to monitor. Roma must also nurture their balance sheet, as well as manage debt in the midst of their uncertain longterm ownership situation, without clear guidelines to follow.
